From past one year everyone is asking when we can expect goods & service tax (GST) to be implemented. Government was about to bring it from 1.4.11 but yesterday Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance clearly said that government can’t give any deadline for GST because they are not able to build a consensus between the Centre and the states.
The Prime minister has made the job more intricate by accusing the BJP of introducing politics in GST on account of Gujarat. The discussion with states has not been taken seriously by our government and in implementing GST states are the major stakeholders which will be affected.
There are many changes incorporated in GST bill last presented but still many states are opposing it, It can either be politics being played or the bill is seriously affecting interest of the states. Whatever it may be to conclude I would just say that looking at various issues government is facing at this point of time we can’t expect GST from 2012, rest we’ll see what happens in parliament sessions to come.
